Two-Tier Environment File Pattern

IssAssist uses a two-tier environment file pattern to manage configuration:

  1. IssAssist-Agents/.env-global: Shared settings for all agents.
  2. IssAssist-Agents//.env: Per-agent GitHub token.

The loading order is as follows:

  • .env-global loaded first
  • <agent>/.env loaded second (overrides global values)

Creating Environment Files

Create each environment file by copying from the corresponding .env.example file. Never commit the per-agent GitHub token files to Git, as they contain sensitive information.

Zero Trust Token Model

Each agent has its own GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT), which is stored in the per-agent environment file. This ensures that no agent shares the same token, maintaining Zero Trust security.

DRY_RUN Mode

The DRY_RUN variable determines whether IssAssist operates in read-only mode or writes to GitHub repositories.

  • Default: true
  • Safe testing: false (default) - Issue warnings and skip writing to GitHub when running in dry-run mode.
  • Recommended: true - Safe for testing without writing to GitHub. Use --dry-run flag with pm-agent or architect commands.

SLACK Integration Setup

To set up Slack integration, create a Slack webhook URL and add it to the SLACK_WEBHOOK_URL environment variable in each agent's configuration file.
